RBC Howell, a 19th-century Baptist pastor, studies the controversy regarding the mode and subjects of baptism from a different angle. While many Baptists have undertaken to write able defenses of the Scriptural mode, subjects, authority, and purpose of Biblical immersion, Howell here traces the necessary evil fruits of undermining the Scriptural mode and subjects of baptism in favour of infant sprinkling. While not strictly written as a defence of believer's immersion, Howell's description of the consequences of infant baptism has proven itself accurate through the centuries.
