Eternal security and assurance of salvation are related in that assurance comes from eternal security. Yet, as the examination of this doctrine unfolds, security does not depend on the strength of assurance, since some may have strong assurance without salvation, and some may have salvation with times of weak assurance. What are the means of assurance? The first tests of assurance are taught in this message: the witness of the Holy Spirit, genuine love for Christ, and obedience to the Word of God.
